About the Library

Library Services operates from two main libraries located in Grouard and Slave Lake and offers access to print and digital resources. You need library account to use the libraries services including digital resources such as the Databases, e-books and videostreaming services. Core collections of reference, periodical, video, CD-ROM, trade books and paperbacks are maintained at all community campuses.

Access to services:
All registered students and staff members may access materials both print and digital. Students must provide their student identification number and be given an account in the library computer system.  Instructors and students in community campuses are encouraged to telephone, fax or email ( library@northernlakescollege.ca ) requests to either Grouard or Slave Lake libraries. Physical items will be sent to the campuses in the College courier and can be returned to either the Slave Lake or Grouard Libraries. You can use the Databases or the e-Books from your home computer if you get a username and pin number from the library staff. Videostreaming materials are available from any college computer to the staff and students of Northern Lakes College. 

Library Catalogue:   All library materials are catalogued on the Library's on-line catalogue. 

Electronic Databases:
Students and staff at Northern Lakes College have access to a number of electronic databases from campus computers. Our databases contain full text magazine and newspaper articles that are excellent sources of information for research reports. Username and password are required to access the databases from off-campus. Please call the Grouard or Slave Lake libraries for assistance.

Library Orientation:
Orientation tours and library instruction programs are available on request. Instruction on using the internet for research is also available. Instructors arranging library orientation should call one week in advance if possible.

Inter-library Loans:
Library Services will borrow books or request photocopies from other libraries on behalf of students and staff. We will lend print material on request.

Distance Education:
Library services will act as an agent for distance education students in contacting their home institution and will forward requests for materials, and receive and return items in the mail on behalf of the student.

Library Computers:
Computers are available for students and staff in the Grouard and Slave Lake campus libraries during library hours. Our libraries also offer wireless connections for your personal computers.
