The Native Cultural Arts Museum can be found in the historical red brick Moosehorn Lodge situated in Grouard, Alberta. Established in 1976, the original purpose of the Northern Lakes College Native Cultural Arts Museum was to promote a better understanding of Aboriginal American arts and crafts, with the objective of developing the creative achievements of artists and crafts persons in northwestern Alberta. This initiative has grown to become an integral part of the Northern Lakes College culture strategy. Our collection celebrates the cultures of the Woodlands Aboriginal peoples of North America, and the history of Lesser Slave Lake and vicinity. The artifact collection consists of both historical objects and contemporary works, including those of students and instructors of the Native Cultural Arts Program. Colourful displays showcase clothing styles and daily living materials, as well as an excellent fine arts collection. Our expanding archival holdings consist of early photographs and limited newspapers. We have a Research Library with a microfilm reader and an excellent assortment of resource materials. In addition to drop-in visitation, the museum offers pre-booked elementary school programs, both in conjunction with Historical Village spring programs and through-out the year. In line with Northern Lakes College's focus on education, museum tours, church tours and crafts programs are developed and delivered in a manner that is relevant to the age of the children who are visiting.
