Scholarships and AwardsWe understand that funding your post-secondary education can be a challenge and through the generosity of many individuals, companies, and associations, we are proud to offer a number of financial awards. Awards may be given based on financial need, academic achievement, community involvement, leadership or extra-curricular activities. The award may also be a combination of a scholarship, bursary or a prize. What is the difference between a scholarship, bursary and prize? A scholarship is an award given in recognition of academic excellence or achievement A bursary is cash award which is based on financial need. There may be also be additional requirements such as community involvement or leadership; the criteria will outline what is required. A prize is an award based on specific outstanding accomplishment or achievement. This award may be cash, a plaque, a book, a medal or a gift.

Internships Serving Communities Internship Program (SCiP) The Serving Communities Internship Program (SCiP) is a unique opportunity that will allow students to gain valuable work experience in the non-profit/volunteer sector and receive a $1,000 bursary upon completion. This is a new internship program available to post-secondary students. Starting in the fall, students can apply for one of up to 500 available internships. Successful applicants can expect to gain meaningful experience at a non-profit/volunteer organization, putting their educational knowledge and skills to work. At the end of the internship, students will receive a $1,000 bursary. This program is the result of a collaborative effort between the Government of Alberta, Volunteer Alberta and the Alberta Students’ Executive Council.
