Asset Management Professional (AMP)

The Asset Management Professional (AMP) Certificate program is designed to build organizational capacity for excellence in asset management. Participants develop the capacity to engage others, build knowledge and skill in key subject areas such as risk management, knowledge management (enterprise database systems), and are introduced to tools for strategic decision making at each stage of the asset life cycle.

The Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA) certification establishes an individual's credentials in asset management knowledge and comprehension, globally! The Certified Asset Management Assessor Preparation Course prepares asset management professionals who are considering writing the CAMA exam. CAMA certification is not only for current or future assessors, this certification benefits professionals who want to demonstrate their understanding of true asset management and the new standard for management systems.

This program qualifies for CEUs for engineers and engineering technologists. Asset Management Professional is recognized by the Canadian Network of Asset Managers (CNAM) - Education, Research and Training Committee.

Who would benefit from AMP?

The program is designed for individuals who are mid-career professionals from a variety of backgrounds such as information technology, engineering, and business management, and who have responsibility for managing decisions with respect to the core life cycle functions such as design, selection, operation, and maintenance of an organization’s assets.

Program Information

The program is comprised of six courses. Course 1 is the pre-requisite course for Courses 2-5. You must complete Courses 1 to 5 before taking Course 6. All courses are delivered NLC Anytime, Anywhere (asynchronously) over ten weeks with lessons delivered weekly. Each course is broken down into ‘weeks’ of work.You can do your weekly assignments on your own schedule. You will connect with your classmates and instructor (for the most part) through online discussion forums. Completion of the AMP program leads to the Certified Asset Management Professional (CAMP™) designation issued by PEMAC.

Course 1: Asset Management Principles and Strategic Development
Course Code: AMP001 Prerequisite: None
Gain an overview of the essentials of Asset Management in the context of ISO 5500x and identify opportunities for application of Asset Management concepts in your organization to realize value. Begin to discover Asset Management decision-making tools.

Course 2: Asset Management Capabilities Development
Course Code: AMP002 Prerequisite: Course 1
Learn how to develop the organizational capability for engaging the workforce to achieve excellent Asset Management performance. Topics include organizational structure analysis to identify changes needed for a holistic asset management approach, change management, project management, systems thinking, training needs assessment, customer supplier relationships, adaptive organizations and cultural discipline.

Course 3: Risk Management and Performance Improvement
Course Code: AMP003 Prerequisite: Course 1
Obtain an overview of risk management tools and techniques and how these techniques can be used to drive performance improvement through the planning, decision-making and operational phases of any corporate objective.

Course 4: Developing and Implementing Asset Lifecycle Activities
Course Code: AMP004 Prerequisite: Course 1
Gain an understanding of different characteristics and requirements for managing assets through the asset lifecycle delivery stages from asset acquisition, through asset operations and maintenance, to asset disposal. Learn when to use various strategies and tactics and practice applying them to real-world examples.

Course 5: Asset Knowledge Management
Course Code: AMP005 Prerequisite: Course 1
Study asset information and knowledge management across the full asset lifecycle from the front-end engineering design through to the “operate and maintain”phase and eventually to asset retirement. Referring to ISO 14224, the course provides a strategic level view of the important role that information and knowledge management play in an asset dependent organization.

Course 6: Asset Management Capstone
Course Code: AMP006 Prerequisite: AMP Courses 1 - 5
In this course, you will review the elements of the previous courses and take the opportunity to bring the concepts together in an applied project. The project requires the development of an Asset Management Policy and Strategy for an organization as well as the development and implementation of an Asset Management Plan for a particular class of assets.

Delivery Methods Explained

Face-to-Face: Courses where the instructor and the students are interacting at the same time, at the same physical location. 

NLC LIVE Online™: Scheduled classes online, where students log in to a program (Blackboard Collaborate™) with instructors and peers on the same day, at the same time.

NLC Anytime, Anywhere: Courses where you do not have scheduled classes, but where you log in to a program online (Moodle) at any time and do your work. 

Blended: Courses where you have a combination of face-to-face and online (NLC Anytime, Anywhere and/or NLC LIVE Online).

Dual Credit: Students in high school can experience College programs while earning post-secondary credits.
