Electrician Apprentice Third Period

Program Length: 8 Weeks

Program Description:

                                                                           To print Program Information, press HERE This program will provide third period electrician apprenticeship students with the skills andtheory necessary to write the third period Alberta Apprenticeship exam. Topicscovered include: principles, power measurement and power factor correction, motor principles, transformers, Canadian Electrical Code/Workplace Coaching Skills and Advisory Network.

Program Delivery:

Traditional classroom settings and electrical shop/lab work.

Admission Requirements:

Students must have successfully completed Electrician second period and be eligible through Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Students entering the program must be indentured as 3rd period apprentices with Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) (Alberta Advanced Education office - Slave Lake, 849–7228 or 849–7217).

Application Process:

APPLICATION: Complete and submit the Northern Lakes College application form (available at all Northern Lakes College locations and on the college website).

APPRENTICESHIP EXAM: Applicants meeting admissions requirements must call the Apprenticeship & Trade Certification Branch nearest to their location to make arrangements for writing the Apprenticeship Entrance Exam. In Slave Lake, call (780) 849-7217.

APPLICANTS for the Apprenticeship program must be registered with Alberta Apprenticeship. Application forms can be downloaded from the Alberta Apprenticeship website, www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca

ACCEPTANCE: Applicants who meet the requirements will be accepted and offered a space in the next available offering of the program. In some cases, the spaces at a specific location may be full and accepted applicants will be placed on a waitlist. These applicants will be accepted in the order of ‘first qualified, first served.” It may also be possible to transfer to another location if there is space. Applicants will receive a letter informing them of their acceptance status.

FUNDING: Applicants are encouraged to check on funding options early. Counsellors can assist with identifying funding options and applying for sponsorship of fees and living costs.

REGISTRATION: Before the start date of the program, accepted applicants will receive information about registration dates, times, locations and other information to assist them.

Transferability:

Any Alberta Apprenticeship and Training approved provider.

Employment Opportunities:

Employment with a registered employer through the apprenticeship program.
Employment with private individuals or with companies. Many students who complete the apprenticeship program and have achieved Journeyman status begin their own business.
