Welder Apprentice Second Period

This program will provide second period Welder apprenticeship students with the skills and theory necessary to pass the second period welder apprenticeship theory and practical exams. Topics covered include shield metal arc welding, gas metal and flux core arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding and pattern development and drawing interpretation. 

Registration for this program opens on May 21, 2010.

Instruction combines traditional classroom settings and shop work.

Admission Requirements:

Students entering the program must be indentured as 2nd period apprentices with Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) – Alberta Advanced Education office (Slave Lake, 849-7228 or 849-7217)

Application Process:

APPLICATION: Complete and submit the Northern Lakes College application form (available at all Northern Lakes College locations and on the College website at www.northernlakescollege.ca).

APPRENTICESHIP EXAM: Applicants meeting admissions requirements must call the Apprenticeship & Trade Certification Branch nearest to their location to make arrangements for writing the Apprenticeship Entrance Exam. In Slave Lake, call (780) 849-7217.

APPLICANTS for the Apprenticeship program must be registered with Alberta Apprenticeship. Application forms can be downloaded from the Alberta Apprenticeship website, www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca

ACCEPTANCE: Applicants who meet the requirements will be accepted and offered a space in the next available offering of the program. In some cases, the spaces at a specific location may be full and accepted applicants will be placed on a waitlist. These applicants will be accepted in the order of first qualified, first served. It may also be possible to transfer to another location if there is space. Applicants will receive a letter informing them of their acceptance status.

FUNDING: Applicants are encouraged to check on funding options early and are responsible for forwarding any sponsorship letters to Admissions as soon as possible. Counsellors can assist with identifying funding options and applying for sponsorship of fees and living costs.

REGISTRATION: Before the start date of the program, accepted applicants will receive information about registration dates, times, locations and other information to assist them.
