Carpenter Apprentice Fourth Period

 

Program Year: 2010-2011

Program Length: 8 Weeks

Program Description:

The Fourth Period Carpentry Program provides students with the practical skills and theory necessary to write the Fourth Period Carpenter Apprenticeship Exam and practical evaluation.
The Apprenticeship program is an option for an individual to become an experienced tradesperson while maintaining employment and income. A registered apprentice can expect to spend about 80% of their time learning on-the-job with their employer while earning wages that increase with each period completed.

TCRF4400 - Section Four - Level Four - Roof Frame and Stairs
TCBD4500 - Section Five - Level Four - Building Design and Renovations
TCEE4600 - Section Six - Level Four - Energy Efficiency and Building Science
TCEP4700 - Section Seven - Level Four - Estimating and Plans

Program Delivery:

Instruction combines traditional classroom and practical shop setting.

Admission Requirements:

Students entering the program must be indentured as 4th  period apprentices with Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) – Alberta Advanced Education office (Slave Lake, 849-7228 or 849-7217).

Application Process:

APPLICATION: Complete and submit the Northern Lakes College application form (available at all Northern Lakes College locations and on the college website). 

APPLICANTS for the Apprenticeship program must be registered with Alberta Apprenticeship. Application forms can be downloaded from the Alberta Apprenticeship website, www.tradesecrets.org.

ACCEPTANCE: Applicants who are verified through the Alberta Apprenticeship will be accepted and offered a space in the next available offering of the program. When spaces are full, they will be placed on a waitlist. Applicants will be accepted in the order of ‘first qualified, first served.” They will receive a letter informing them of their acceptance status.

FUNDING: Applicants are encouraged to check on funding options early. Counsellors can assist with identifying funding options and applying for sponsorship of fees and living costs.

REGISTRATION: Before the start date of the program, accepted applicants will receive information about registration dates, times, locations and other information to assist them.
