Required Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Health related background i.e. Nursing, Paramedicine;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work well autonomously and in a team environment;
  • Ability to travel across campus and external agency areas;
  • Possess an understanding of academic health care programs;
  • Experience using Health Sciences Placement Network (HSPnet) would be an asset;
  • Experience using Excel Tracking and Comptracker would be an asset;
  • Exercise discretion and confidentiality in the performance of the position;
  • Knowledge of external agencies and related programs to facilitate student placements would be an asset.

Position Description

Title: Administrator, Student Placements

Major Job Function:

This position’s primary responsibility is to provide planning, support, and monitoring of program needs. There is a requirement to input data to support the program areas. The placements for instructor-led clinical placements & preceptor-led practicum placements; request, implement and track practicum placements for students in the Northern Lakes College Health Programs – Practical Nurse, Allied Health Programs (Health Care Aide, Primary Care Paramedic, Advanced Care Paramedic, Paramedicine Upgrading Programs). Act as a liaison between the College and external agencies, organizations and health regions. An extensive knowledge of the program requirements and the health care system is required. Competencies and tasks of the position will be consistent with the educational principles of the College, which focus on meeting the learning needs of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with program Chairs and Coordinators to plan, advise and monitor program needs:
  • Maintain academic records.
  • Data collection and entry.
  • Assist with ensuring students have the necessary resources to be successful.
  • Attend monthly department meetings and other meetings as required.
  1. Collaborate with Chair, Coordinators and Instructors to Facilitate Clinical Placement Experiences for Students:
  • Research and recommend potential clinical and practicum placement sites and provide information to instructors, department Chairs, Coordinators, Instructors and students, when course demands change or evolve.
  • Consult with instructors to match students and preceptors.
  • Support the process of obtaining updating and acquiring new student placement agreements.
  1. Maintain Accurate Student Records:
  • Record current, relevant student information.
  • Oversee and maintain HspNet Database including student placements.
  • Maintain up to date inventory of student information.
  • Compose written communication to students as needed.
  • Verify student records to confirm all College program and practicum placement requirements are met (e.g., criminal record and vulnerable sector search, immunizations, First Aid and CPR certification, WCB coverage, etc.).
  • Record and track clinical placement experiences for all students throughout the program to ensure program approval/accreditation requirements are met for each student.

This position is accountable to and reports to the Program Chairs in Allied Health & Practical Nurse.

  • Works independently within established guidelines. The situations encountered are standard and there is room to exercise judgment regarding specific situations relating to student placements. Assistance from the supervisor and/or faculty is available where precedent does not exist.
  • Finds suitable placements for students.

    5. Client Service Focus:

  • Understands the importance and impact of providing timely and quality service, delivers quality service to a diverse client base, anticipates, adapts and fulfills client needs, refers clients to appropriate/additional campus or related resources, strives to improve the quality of service.
  • Coordinate and schedule placements with placement sites and ensure contracts are accurate and signed by the delegated authority.
  • Ensure that placements meet the requirements for accreditation with program specific regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure that students have obtained all requirements and pre-requisites prior to the start of the placement.
