Position Description

Title: Cloud and Data Integration Analyst

Department: Information Technology Services

Nature and Scope of Work

Northern Lakes College is in the process of a major evolution of multiple enterprise information systems to a next generation, Cloud-based application base. This position will act as the College’s resident data expert and play critical roles in the migration of existing data, transition from on premise databases to the Cloud, and the establishment of a College wide Data Analytics system.

Key responsibilities include

  • Engage users and data stewards across the College to define and understand business processes and related reporting, analytical and decision support requirements.
  • Develop critical reports, dashboards and visualizations that describe current and historical trends, and provide analytical insights to help enhance the Colleges operation and planning functions. Integrate report and analytical inputs and outputs with key business processes.
  • Develop data acquisition strategies. Organize and facilitate data transformation and data governance workshops where required with the management and the executive team.
  • Work with system and Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) vendors to plan and execute upgrades, migration of existing data, integration of existing systems and related tasks.
  • Design and implement data taxonomies, data relationships and data models in a Microsoft SQL Server, Azure and Power BI environment.
  • Work with the IT Director(s) and other departments as appropriate to develop and maintain a Data Governance Framework.
  • Create and maintain architectural specifications related to the database systems / data warehouse and develop interfaces, scripts and applications required to gather data from various sources including on premise and Cloud based College applications.
  • Install, maintain and test database systems as required. Ensure that systems and data that this role is responsible for are optimized, backed up and that availability requirements are met. This may include software installation, configuration, updates, upgrades and patches on related servers.
  • Co-ordinate with the College’s e-Learning specialist to train end-users to use reports and analytical dashboards.
  • Design and implement applications using Office 365 platform.
  • Support the development, management and maintenance of documentation, policies, procedures and regulations as required and ensure that proper version control and configuration management procedures are applied.
  • Advise management and other team members on best practices and trends, and collaboratively implement system enhancements, upgrades, migrations or transitions in accordance with the College’s IT strategy.
  • Support annual Security and Information Systems Audits
  • Follow College policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Assist in other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Office 365 applications including Power BI, PowerApps, Flow and CDS will be helpful.
  • Strong expertise in data modeling and data architecture. This includes the development of full data taxonomies, schema design, implementation of dimensional and dynamic data models, data policies, security and access models, partitioning strategies and the integration of structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Solid experience installing, configuring and managing Microsoft SQL server.
  • Visual C#, basic HTML coding and the ability to work with XML/JSON files is desirable.
  • Experience working with Powershell
  • Experience working with Windows Servers.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge and experience of Azure Containers, Azure Notebooks and R or Python in a Data Science context is desirable.
  • MS Office 365 with strong Microsoft Excel Skills.
  • Strong Organizational, Communication and Customer Service skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a highly collaborative, team based environment.
  • Spoken and written English.

Work Conditions

  • Occasional evening, weekend and on-call work to meet deadlines or during peak periods;
