Security Technical Support Specialist

Qualifications:

  • A Computer Tech Certificate, Net Plus or equivalent designation is required;
  • Three years’ experience working with building security systems;
  • Related safety system maintenance experience is required;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required;
  • A background in Instrumentation or Electrician would be an asset;
  • Criminal Record Check;
  • Driver’s License

Position Description

Security Technical Support Specialist

Nature and Scope of Work

This position reports to the Senior Director of Facilities and Ancillary Services. This position will be responsible for the all aspects of security throughout Northern Lakes College’s service area. This position will also have contract and budget responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs, monitors and supervises the daily operation of the; access system, the intrusion alarm system, the fire alarm system and the College keying systems throughout the College service area. This position deals with all code issues related to the systems they are responsible for.
  • Supervises contracted security providers and responds to incident reports.
  • Identifies and provides costs for security maintenance and new security projects. Provides rational, set priorities and implement projects utilizing in-house staff, contracted services or a combination of both within the NLC service area. Monitors budgets to insure project costs and budget expectations are being met.
  • Provides in-house training for NLC staff on all security related equipment located at their campus. Responsible for doing systems inspections and security inspections at all campuses. This position will also be involved with the College’s Emergency Response Plan.

Knowledge and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of the security systems that they will be responsible for. This will include the daily operation, maintenance and contract requirements to deal with the various issues arising from the multiple College sites.

Qualifications:

A minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent, with 3 years of building security systems and related safety system maintenance experience is required. This person must hold a computer tech certificate, Net Plus or equivalent designations and a valid class 5 driver’s license. The successful candidate must provide a clean Criminal Record Check. An individual with an Instrumentation or Electrician background would be an asset.
