Salary Range: $60,192 to $78,972 per year

Location: Slave Lake

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • 3-5 years progressive experience in a position with related competencies
  • Accounting designation or working towards an accounting designation
  • Advanced proficiency performing detail spreadsheet work with numerical data, with the ability to assemble, reconcile, analyze and interpret financial data, and prepare detailed reports/analyses for use by Senior Management
  • Some travel maybe required within our Region

Position Description

Business Processes and Financial Analyst

Nature and Scope of Work

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Finance Services, this position will be responsible for financial operations reporting, business processes, year-end and external reporting. The incumbent will apply their knowledge and attention to detail to various tasks and contribute to the direction of the department within the College. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Business processes support

  • Developing and structuring various business processes
  • Review current practices and procedures to identify risks and recommend necessary adjustments as needed
  • VISA administration
  • Developing and managing content for Finance web-page

Financial operations and reporting

  • Monthly bank reconciliations
  • Review financial transactions to ensure compliance with the department’s/College’s policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and post adjusting entries
  • Analyze, evaluate and monitor expenditures
  • Review accounting transactions entered in the finance department for accuracy
  • Obtaining, verification and reconciliation information from various departments

Year-end operations

  • Preparing and posting various adjusting entries
  • Capital assets and Bookstore inventory counts
  • Obtaining, verification and reconciliation information from various department

External reporting

  • Various reports to CRA and Statistics Canada
  • WCB annual report
  • Quarterly Tourism Levy and GST returns

Supervision and Leadership

  • Back up for Accounting Supervisor as required
  • Participate in College Committees as assigned
  • Participate in the development of departmental goals
  • Provides financial training to college staff as requested
  • Ability to update and develop policies, procedures and regulations
  • Other duties and assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Have sufficient organizational skills to prioritize work and report on progress
  • The candidate will also possess excellent computer skills with specific experience in Excel, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and computerized accounting software packages (Agresso preferred)
  • Developed technical and interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good rapport with internal and external customer groups
  • Prior experience in reviewing and reengineering of business processes is an asset

Contacts (Internal and External)

  • Act as the main liaison between Finance and budget officers on various financial and process-related questions
  • Provides continues training to all new budget officers, including developing training materials
