Welcome to Northern Lakes College!

Medicine Hat College is increasing accessibility and offering flexible learning opportunities to students in southeast Alberta by supporting the delivery of Northern Lakes College programs.

Northern Lakes College provides a Supported Distance Learning (SDL) environment. We do more than simply provide learning material and let you learn at your own pace.

  • NLC offers online classrooms that allow you to interact live with other students and instructors
  • Classes are recorded so you can watch them anytime that works for you!

With access to online tutoring, e-counselling services, funding services, the NLC Connect app, and the library’s extensive digital collection, you will receive the same quality learning experience you would on campus.

Step One: RESEARCH

NLC offers programs and courses to meet your needs. With flexible delivery options, your education can help you achieve the job you‘ve always wanted. If you need help choosing the right program, contact a Career Counsellor  who will be happy to help you!

Step Two: DOCUMENTATION

GATHER YOUR DOCUMENTS
After you have selected your program or course, gather all required documents. To determine which documentation is required, please see the Academic Requirements on the program webpage. Some programs require a specific placement test; an Admissions Specialist will notify you if you need to complete a placement test.

Step Three: APPLY

APPLY FOR YOUR PROGRAM 
NLC offers two easy ways to apply!

  1. Northern Lakes College 
    Apply for admission into Academic Upgrading, certificate, diploma, and degree programs by completing the NLC Application for Admission form. Upload any required supporting documents with your online application or email them separately to admissions@northernlakescollege.ca.

  2. ApplyAlberta
    ApplyAlberta (APAS)– an online application system for admission into Academic Upgrading, certificate, and diploma programs.

Step Four: FUNDING

GET FINANCIALLY PREPARED 
NLC offers student loans, grants, awards, and bursaries. Explore your funding options! Visit www.northernlakescollege.ca/awards for a complete awards list. 

YOUR NEW BEGINNING

Once you receive your acceptance letter from Admissions Services and pay the commitment fee. You are now a student of Northern Lakes College and are able to complete the online portions of the program from the comfort of your own home, work, or wherever there is an internet connection.
