Water - Membrane Filtration

Course Description

This 6.5 contact hour course is delivered NLC LIVE Online.

Many water systems - both large and small - use membrane filtration to achieve high levels of treatment. Operators must understand the importance and impact of raw water quality, pre-treatment, and membrane cleaning processes on the membrane system performance. This workshop will review the basic principles of membrane filtration and the parameters that affect its operation.

What will be covered in this course:
1. Raw water quality and its impact on pre-treatment and on membrane selection
2. Pre-treatment
3. Membrane operation
4. Water quality analysis
5. System operation including backwash/flushing and clean-in-place procedures
6. System maintenance
7. Instrumentation/controls
8. Record keeping and review of MSDS sheets

Quizzes and group discussion are used to assess your learning at several points throughout the course.

This course is approved for 0.6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) for Alberta Water/Waste Water Operators.
