Course Description

The course contains instruction on:

 basic air brake theory
 fundamentals of forces air
 air brake system operation
 foundation brakes and brake adjustment
 brake system inspections and routine maintenance
strategies for situations such as long down hill grades and bobtailing.

Important Information about this course:Course starts promptly at the start time stated. Students who are late may be refused admission.

Appropriate clothing is required (i.e. jeans, pants, proper footwear such as running shoes). You will be required to do practical exercises during this course.Employers are advised not to send injured employees who are unable to perform the required exercises to pass the course, e.g. employees on Workers' Compensation or on light duty.

All Air Brakes courses are two days, 6 students will complete the Air Brakes course on the first day which will end later (around 8:00 pm). The remaining students will return on the 2nd day for their practical test which will be scheduled in 2 hour time slots. Schedule for the practical portion for both the first and second day will be determined with instructor and students on the first day.
You may be required to stay longer than the stated end time in order to complete the practical exam.
Appropriate clothing is required (i.e. jeans, pants, proper footwear such as running shoes, outdoor clothing for the weather). You will be required to do practical exercises during this course outside.
Please be advised that participants who are unable to perform the required exercises will not pass the course. (Eg. Employees who are on Worker's Compensation on light duty.)
Please provide Driver's License upon request for Certificate purposes.
Successful students will receive Certificate to present to Registries Office for Air Brakes Exam. Student's loss of Certificate will be charged $50 administrative fee for replacement.

Withdrawals and Refunds

Your registration will be fully refunded when notice of withdrawal is given two (2) working days before the course start date. When notification is received less than two (2) full working days before the course start date an invoice will be issued for full payment of the course. When you are unable to attend your course, you may arrange for someone to take your place by Contacting Continuing Education & Corporate Training at work@northernlakescollege.ca or 780-849-8623..

Cancellation

Northern Lakes College reserves the right to re-schedule or cancel a course that lacks sufficient registrations to provide a satisfactory learning atmosphere. In this event your registration fee will be refunded in full or applied to the re-scheduled course.

Fee Payment

Fee Payment: Fees are due at the time of registration. Northern Lakes College accepts cash, cheque, money order, debit, VISA, MasterCard, American Express. Invoicing to a company requires a Purchase Order (PO).
