Mental Health First Aid Certificate (Canada)
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Just as physical first aid is administered to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained, MHFA is given until appropriate treatment is found or until the crisis is resolved. Participants learn how to provide help, promote the recovery of good mental health, and provide comfort to a person experiencing a mental health problem.
Course Information Mental Health First Aid Basic
MHFA Basic is a 12-hour course that discusses the following mental disorders: Substance use disorders; Mood disorders; Anxiety disorders; and Psychotic disorders. Crisis first aid skills for the following situations are learned: substance overdose, suicidal behavior, panic attack, acute stress reaction, and psychotic episode.
Participants receive a certificate of participation from the Mental Health Commission of Canada. No recertification is required

Mental health problems are common. There is a stigma associated with mental health problems. Many people are not well informed. Professional help is not always on hand. People may lack the insight to realize they need help or that help is available. Members of the general public often do not know how to respond.

Withdrawals and Refunds
Your registration will be fully refunded when notice of withdrawal is given two (2) working days before the course start date.
When notification is received less than two (2) full working days before the course start date no refund will be issued.
If you are unable to attend your course, you may arrange for someone to take your place by contacting Continuing Education & Corporate Training at email@example.com or 780-849-8623.
Northern Lakes College reserves the right to re-schedule or cancel a course that lacks sufficient registrations to provide a satisfactory learning atmosphere. In this event your registration fee will be refunded in full or applied to the re-scheduled course.
