This module looks at how human resources practices relate to the maintenance environment. Topics covered include the role of human resources in maintenance management, meeting legal requirements, recruitment and selection, orientation training and employee development, proper application of performance appraisals, the union management interface, managing change through effective leadership and managing safety in the workplace.

Sessions are delivered LIVE ONLINE via internet conferencing - distance learning. Ten, 3 hour weekly evening sessions.
Course materials include a textbook and a participant workbook. The participant workbook is available in Moodle (the Learning Management System used for this course) as a pdf that you can download. Access to your course in Moodle is available 14 days before the course start date.

David has been a Maintenance and Trades college instructor for the past eleven years. During this time, he delivered both in-class apprenticeship training as well as in-class and online Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) training. David also spent 10 years on various committees advising on the Trades and Red Seal issues with Ontario colleges, the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT) and the Ontario Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU). Prior to being an instructor, he spent the majority of his career with a multi-national pulp and paper company. While maintenance has always been his passion, he was fortunate enough to be involved at many areas and levels of the company including Superintendent (Maintenance, Training and Shutdown), Supervisor (Production and Maintenance), trainer, tradesman and operator. Withdrawals and Refunds
An administrative fee of $50 will be charged for all cancelled or transferred registrations. Tuition will be fully refunded less the $50 administration fee when notice of withdrawal is given 14 days before the course start date. A partial refund of 75% of the tuition fee is granted if notice of withdrawal is received less than 14 days prior to the course start date and up to 14 days after the course start date. Fees paid for materials and shipping are non-refundable.
Fees are due at the time of registration. Northern Lakes College accepts cash, cheque, money order, debit, VISA, MasterCard, American Express. Invoicing to a company requires a Purchase Order (PO).
