Program Description

Do you want to make a difference in your community? Do you genuinely care about helping others? Do you want a rewarding career that is in high demand? Northern Lakes College's Health Care Aide Program will prepare you for your career as a vital member of the health care team. Health Care Aides assist professional nurses in providing care to clients of all ages. They may work in acute care, continuing care, long-term care, home care, and assisted living settings. Our Health Care Aide Program follows the 2010 Government of Alberta provincial curriculum and includes both theory and practical experiences. This program is accessible, flexible, and delivered in an manner to support each student's individual success.

Program Delivery

This program is offered using a blended, distance delivery model. The course is online, supported by computer-based lectures, face-to-face lab seminars, and a clinical practicum.

Academic Requirements

Credit in English 10-1 or 10-2 or equivalent.
Credit in Math 10-3 or equivalent is strongly recommended.
Mature applicants will be accepted if they successfully complete a skills assessment.

Other Requirements

 A Police Information Check showing clearance must be submitted upon acceptance to the program.
 Applicants are required to be in good physical and emotional health. A health status form must be submitted upon commencement of classes.
 An up-to-date Immunization Record must be submitted prior to the practicum placement.
 Proof of CPR for Health Care Providers must be submitted prior to the practicum.
