This course provides the student with the theoretical foundation and skills to provide appropriate patient care according to the Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) scope of practice. This course emphasizes traumatic emergencies. Students will be required to demonstrate through lab scenarios completing appropriate patient assessments, interpreting the significance of assessment findings, developing a working diagnosis, adapting priorities of assessment and treatment in response to the patient presentation and assessment findings, and executing patient care interventions according to the Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) Scope of Practice.
Students will learn fundamental concepts, appropriate methodologies and will increase their critical thinking skills as they move through the steps of patient assessment, history taking, treatment, and transport. Concepts learned in this course will be applied in the lab setting during onsite weeks and are foundational to advanced level courses and the practicum placements.This course will focus on the treatment of trauma patients.
