Trauma calls make up a significant percentage of emergency calls EMS providers respond to on a daily basis. While largely preventable, traumatic injuries can cause pain, permanent disability and death, and can cause a tremendous amount of strain on the patient's family and on the health care system as a whole. Prevention programs, mandatory seatbelt and helmet laws, and other safety initiatives have worked well in decreasing the number of incidences and severity of injuries sustained. Managing the trauma patient is critical in the pre-hospital care setting. This course will cover all aspects of treatment for the trauma patient.
