Advanced Care Paramedic Upgrading

Program Details

Program Description

This stand-alone program is available to Advanced Care Paramedic graduates who did not participate in the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) licensing evaluation process within 12 months of issue of the Advanced Care Paramedic Diploma or academic transcript, were unsuccessful in the ACP licensing process, or whose Advanced Care Paramedic license has expired. The ACP Upgrading program is also open for enrollment to out of province candidates that have completed a CMA or Accreditation Canada accredited program or for those who have had an upgrading program completion identified as a requirement by the Alberta College of Paramedics Substantial Equivalency Review process. The ACP Upgrading program is fifteen weeks in duration. The program consists of two 6 week theory courses followed by a 120 hr practicum course. Program theory is delivered NLC anytime, anywhere and is online self directed study. Instructor support is available to students over the duration of the program. Participating in self study includes reviewing of prerecorded lectures and completing learning activities which will provide students a comprehensive review of treatment guidelines, protocols, procedures, and current evidence based practice. Students will complete online quizzes and exams throughout the two foundation courses. In the last week of each theory course, there is a face-to-face lab. The face to face labs are hosted at the Slave Lake Campus. Students are expected to review the online resources and materials in preparation for the onsite lab seminars. The lab seminars focus on ACP skill review, scenario practice and assessment. Attendance to the face to face labs is mandatory. Students must have reliable, high speed Internet access and a mobile device compatible with the College technology requirements, to effectively participate in the online portions of the program.
