Course Description

In this course, students will integrate and apply knowledge from previous paramedic courses and adapt it to the pediatric and geriatric patient populations. Students will also implement adaptations to management and treatment plans for patients with diverse medical needs and for patients with conditions impacting physical and cognitive abilities. Additionally, this course will include special situations that may be encountered by the advanced care paramedic, including management of mass casualty incidents caused by chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive weapons. Successful completion of this course will provide students with certification in Geriatric Education for Emergency Medical Services (GEMS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). For the purposes of certification expiration, this course will also include the full Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
