Program Description

Would you like to be a positive influence in the lives of young people? Consider a career in early learning and child care. The Early Learning and Child Care Certificate Program at Northern Lakes College will give you the training you need to work in this rewarding career. You will be trained to work with children from birth to 12 years of age in settings such as daycares, preschools, after-school programs, and private day homes. Academic Requirements

Fluency in English: Credit in English 30-1 or 60% in English 30-2, or credit in ENGL0190.
Applicants without the requirements will be considered if they satisfactorily complete an ACCUPLACER assessment.
Transcripts and documents from other provinces and certificate granting bodies will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Transferability

Students may transfer into Northern Lakes College's Early Learning and Child Care Diploma Program.

Pre-Program Considerations:
Practicum agencies may require an up-to-date Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) and an Alberta Children's Services Intervention Record Check of students placed in their organizations. The inability to present clear checks may prevent a student from completing the program requirements. Basic computer skills and reliable high speed internet connection are required.
