Program Description

The Educational Assistant Program at Northern Lakes College will give you the training you need for a meaningful career working with children in school settings. Responsibilities include helping students with exceptionalities by adapting their educational materials and programs. Educational Assistants also observe and report student progress to teachers and other related professionals. As well, they help students learn in one-on-one or small group situations, promote inclusion, and prepare instructional materials for teachers. Contact us today to find out how you can get started in this one-year program!

Academic Requirements

Fluency in English: Credit in English 30-1 or 60% in English 30-2 or credit in ENGL0190.
Credit in Math 10 C or Math 10-3 or Math 0190.
Equivalent Math and English courses will also be considered (e.g. ENGL0100).
Applicants without the requirements will be considered if they satisfactorily complete an ACCUPLACER assessment.

Other Requirements

Pre-Program Considerations:
Practicum agencies may require an up-to-date Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector) and an Alberta Children's Services Intervention Record Check of students placed in their organizations. The inability to present clear checks means a student may not be able to complete the program requirements. Students are required to sign and submit a Police Information Check Declaration of Understanding form prior to the first day of classes. Contact the Program Chair for further information.

Transferability

Some courses may transfer to other programs. Refer to the Alberta Transfer Guide.
