Program Description
Heavy equipment technicians maintain, repair, and overhaul heavy vehicles and industrial equipment.
Heavy equipment technicians are employed by specialized repair shops and organizations that own or lease heavy equipment used in the construction, mining, forestry, materials handling, landscaping, land clearing, agricultural and transportation industries.

Academic Requirements
Minimum Requirements: English 20-2, Math 20-3, Science 10; or a passing mark in all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) tests; or a passing mark on Alberta Industry and Training's Entrance Exam.
Category B: Recommended Path: Alberta High School Diploma with: English 30-2, Math 30-2, Physics 30 OR Chemistry 30 OR Biology 30 OR Science 30, Related Career and Technology Studies (CTS) Courses.

If academic requirements are not met you will need to do an ACCUPLACER assessment. Minimum levels: 70 in Reading Comp., 55 in Arithmetic, and 50 in Elementary Algebra. Contact your nearest campus to schedule an appointment. Pre-Employment students are NOT required to be registered with Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT).
