Program Description

Are you interested in a diverse career that services industries such as mining, forestry, oil, and gas, as well as industrial, commercial, and residential construction? This program will prepare Apprentice Boom Truck Operators for the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Journeyperson theory and practical examinations.

Boom Truck Operators have endless career options. You could work as an employee, contractor, sub-contractor, or even start your own business! As a Boom Truck Operator, you will operate and service hoisting equipment used to move machinery and other large objects. You will learn to set up, service, and operate hydraulic booms mounted on turrets that are affixed to trucks capable of moving heavy loads.

The on-site delivery is a combination of classroom lectures and lab training on boom trucks.

Academic Requirements

Eligible students are determined by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT). See www.tradesecrets.alberta.ca for more details. You must meet the entrance requirements for your specific trade, be indentured by an employer and be eligible to attend the training sessions.
RECOMMENDED PATH: Alberta High School Diploma with:
 English 30-2.
 Math 30-3.
 Physics 20 or Chemistry 20 or Science 20.
 Related Career and Technology Studies courses.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 English 10-2 and Math 10-3 or a pass mark in all 5 Canadian General Educational Development (GED) tests or a passing mark on AIT's Entrance Exam. See www.tradesecrets.alberta.ca for more information on AIT's Entrance Exam.
