  • An Alberta or Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter Certificate is required; equivalencies will be considered;
  • Experience teaching or mentoring adults in an educational or trades setting;
  • Class 5 Drivers License;

Job Description 


Instructor – Carpentry          



Major Job Function:

This position is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivery of instruction and evaluation of learners for Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training and other carpentry programming.   Apprenticeship theory and lab instruction is geared toward preparing students to write the Alberta Apprenticeship exam for progressive periods of the Carpentry trade. This position also includes administrative duties, liaison with community/government/industry representatives and working with other College departments.  The incumbent reports to the Chair, Trades & Resource Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare for instruction
  • Delivery of instruction, addressing various learning styles and needs
  • Evaluate and report on student progress
  • Develop program curriculum as appropriate
  • Liaison with industry, government and community representatives as required
  • Work with other College departments to facilitate learner success
  • Perform any of the following administrative tasks:
  • Assist in the recruitment and enrolment of students
  • Track student attendance & interventions
  • Submit reports and forms as required
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of student information



  • Several years of teaching or mentoring experience in an educational or trades setting
  • Excellent skills with MS Office
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills


  • Experience teaching adults
  • Experience teaching in aboriginal or remote communities
