Course Description

BEL 301 Foundations of Cree Language and Culture is primarily foundational in nature and at a lower academic level when compared to Cree Language and Culture 10 for Academic Upgrading.
Students will not be a fluent conversationalist after taking this course, but it will prepare them for the introductory through to intermediate levels of language study.
Students will be learning basic Cree language and culture over a 15-week period which will cover: basic greetings, expressions and etiquette, date and weather terms as well as numbers, colors, verbs, pronouns, and basic phrases and conversation and Cree culture.
In addition to the weekly live online lessons, students are expected to spend 4-5 hours per week engaging with the activities of this course. Repetition and practice are key techniques in learning a language. It is advised that students practice reading, listening and speaking Cree language daily throughout the course. The goal of the course is for students to be effective, competent and comfortable as beginning Cree speakers
