Course Description

BEL 101 Communications is the first of three English courses at the pre-high school level. Students will develop language arts skills while achieving the two basic aims of English courses. One aim is to encourage students to gain an understanding and appreciation of the significance and artistry of literature. A second aim is to enable students to understand and appreciate language and to use it confidently and competently for a variety of purposes, with a variety of audiences, and in a variety of situations for communication, personal satisfaction, and learning. Students will develop essential skills and knowledge in the six content areas: listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing, and representing. Students will learn to compose, comprehend, and respond to oral, print, and other media texts.
