Course Description

This course focuses on the Advanced Care Paramedics role in the management of gynecological, obstetrical, neonatal and pediatric emergencies. Topics covered include care and management of the expectant mother, and the care and management of the neonate as well as pediatric and gynecological emergencies. The first part of the course will outline the management of the normal pregnancy, labour, antepartum care, and postpartum care, obstetrical emergencies, and gynecological emergencies. Appropriate management of abnormal delivery presentations and complications of labour and delivery, such as postpartum hemorrhage, will be discussed. In addition, studies will include Pediatric and neonatal illnesses, injuries, and advanced treatment modalities for each. Upon successful completion of this course, the students will be certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
