Course Description

In this course students will learn what is required to work professionally and effectively in Early Learning and Child Care environments. Students become knowledgeable in the history of Early Childhood Education programs, professional ethics, codes of conduct, job descriptions and role clarifications. Students will learn their role in public policy advocacy, provincial certification requirements and quality standards in Early Childhood Programs. Socio-cultural diversity with a unique Aboriginal perspective is explored in these areas. In addition, policies on early childhood from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Alberta Child and Youth Services are covered.

Credit in English 30-1 or 60% in English 30-2, or credit in ENGL0190. Note: Available to dual-credit students without the listed pre-requisites.
