Course Description

This course surveys works of literature in English from the medieval period to the end of the seventeenth century, with a focus on reading literature in its historical context. The course includes literary works of poetry, prose, and drama. Students will read Old and Middle English texts texts in translation. Early modern English texts will be studied in their original language. Students will be expected to read extra-textual materials from their anthology.
