English Renaissance Literature: The Sixteenth Century

Course Description

A survey of representative works of literature (except full-length plays) from the reign of Henry VIII to Elizabeth I. Works will be studied in their historical contexts, including social, political and religious contexts. Students will read works of poetry and prose by such writers as Thomas Wyatt, John Skelton, Thomas More, Phillip Sidney, Mary Sidney Herbert, Edmund Spenser, and William Shakespeare.
