Course Description

A survey of representative works of literature (except full-length plays) from the seventeenth century, from the accession of James I (1603) to the beginning of the Restoration (1660). Students will read a wide variety of poetry and prose texts from the seventeenth century, and works will be studied in their historical contexts, including social, political and religious contexts.
