Course Description

In this course, students will encounter plays written and performed during the politically volatile period from the late sixteenth to the early seventeenth century. This was a period rich in performance cultures, and plays of the public stage were influenced by and intervened in the politics of the period in exciting ways - sometimes subtle and oblique and sometimes explicit and controversial.
