Course Description

This course provides a foundation for understanding crime and the criminal justice system. The criminal justice system includes the police, courts, and prisons (i.e., correctional services). Divided into 10 units, this course discusses the following topics, all grounded in the Canadian reality: crime and crime controlling, police services, criminal law, criminal courts, sentencing, corrections (provincial/territorial and federal prison systems), and youth justice.
