Among the most enduring artifacts of the Cold War is the spy novel. Although not originating in the Cold War, the genre of fiction about spies and espionage reached a high point during the period 1945-1990. The "secret worlds" of the Cold War provided endless fodder for thrilling tales of action and adventure during the standoff between America and the Soviet Union. While entertaining, these novels have formed a distinct genre, which tells us a great deal about the fears and hopes of everyday ci
