Director, External Relations, Marketing and Communication

Major Job Function:

Reporting to the President, the Director is responsible for the administration and management of the External Relations portfolio. The Director holds primary responsibility for strategic planning and programming related to the Marketing and Communications, web development, merchandising, FOIP, and portfolio operations. The College’s mission and vision statements guide the strategic direction of the External Relations portfolio.

The Director, External Relations, Marketing & Communications is connected to diverse internal and external communities, and is responsive to those communities through a vision of relationship-building, cultivation, strategic communications and partnerships and commitment to philanthropy. The Director plays an active leadership role in strengthening community engagement locally, regionally, and provincially.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director, External Relations, Marketing and Communication is responsible for the following:

  • Management of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy program.
  • Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team on the management of major email privacy breaches and regularly advising staff and faculty on protection of information in relation to their daily work activities.
  • The Director, External Relations supervises a team of professional staff who work collaboratively to execute the portfolio’s operating plan.
  • Play an active role in developing relationships between the College communities and/or business and governments.
  • Provide strategic counsel to the President & CEO on issues related to external relations, public affairs, advancements, stewardship, community engagement, marketing, and communications.
  • Function as a key member of Operations

Committee, Policy Review Committee, Strategic Enrollment Committee, Capital and Finance Committee, Risk Management Advisory Committee, Academic Council, Digital Systems Committee, Emergency Preparedness and Response Committee, Legislative Compliance Committee, Access and Awards Committee and Dean’s meetings.

  • Provide administration, management and leadership to facilitate external relations and advancement outcomes in support of Northern Lakes College’s vision, mission and strategic direction.
  • Work closely with faculty, staff, students, alumni and the Board of Governors to create and sustain a positive commitment to advancement and alumni activities.
  • Ensure that Northern Lakes College’s marketing, communications and external positioning strategy provides a clear, consistent and coordinated message to the College’s various communities.
  • Responsible for fiscal management of department’s finances and other resources.
  • Recruit, select, train and manage staff.
  • Supervise, coach and mentor direct reports.
  • Play an advisory role in corporate event planning.
  • Help to manage Northern Lakes College’s awards program by continued cultivation of donors, friends of the college, and prospective donors.

Required:
