  • Minimum two-year diploma or two years of university in a field such as Business, Administration, Marketing, Project Management, etc.;
  • Proven customer service skills;
  • Experience in OH&S Training is an asset;
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relations with Industry Partners;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
  • Must be proficient in a variety of computer skills including, but not limited to: MS Office Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint presentations;
  • Three to five years’ experience working in a related occupation, preferably with oversite of operational processes/systems or within an educational institution.

Successful candidate must provide College or University transcripts, Criminal Record Check, proof of valid driver’s license and proof of Covid 19 Vaccination, negative PCR test within the past 72 hours or an approved exemption to Human Resources prior to commencement.

Position Description

Liaison, Continuing Education and Corporate Training

Learner Services

Nature and Scope of Work

Meet the educational and training needs of Continuing Education and Corporate Training customers though the delivery of relevant, timely, accessible and quality courses, programs and services which contribute to the strategic direction of Northern Lakes College. This position is directly responsible for coordination of Industrial Safety Training in northern Alberta.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate non-credit courses and programs
  • Survey business and industry on a regularized schedule to determine needs and to build capacity, and answer specific questions that arise from curriculum development for new courses;
  • Maintain a schedule of non-credit courses to be delivered within a designated geographic area;
  • Identify potential instructors to deliver courses, determine costs of course delivery, contract instructors and conduct evaluations;
  • Book delivery sites. If being held at a college campus, work with local College staff to promote courses, take registrations, access facilities, set-up of the course, clean-up and return; paperwork, ensure maximum accessibility of courses by utilizing new technology to deliver courses whenever possible;
  • Identify needs at the individual, community, and company level and coordinate delivery for private training;
  • Promote programs, courses & services;
  • Monitor low-enrollment courses and promote new courses;
  • Collect and maintain current course outlines for CECT database and website.
  1. External and internal liaison
  • Identify potential partnerships for deliveries;
  • Create contact databases for specific client groups (communities, services, etc.), manage contacts through follow-up and work with External Relations to house contact lists that meet CASL legislation;
  • Promote educational / training solutions to organizations;
  • Provide input for pricing strategies (group rates, discounts, special promotions, etc.)
  • Work with the CECT team to provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external clients;
  • Attend selected Community Education Committee meetings to promote CECT programs.
  1. Contract oversight
  • Oversee and assist contract and Independent Employee instructors;
  • Support the evaluation process with regard to contract instructors;
  • Work with CECT instructors on performance issues;
  • Recommend to Chair which CECT instructors are not to be hired again due to performance issues;
  • Orient new CECT instructors to the college and expectations of their role;
  • Prepare instructional contracts and Independent employee-employer agreements and service offerings for approval in NLC’s Unit4 data base.
  1. Development, research and project management
  • Keep abreast of new developments in related workforces;
  • Identify trends in registration;
  • Forecast industry, commercial, non-profit, First Nations, and government training needs based on trends, anticipated and regulation changes, industry needs.
  1. Provide input re forecasting, budgeting and ensure proper monitoring of expenses
  • Assist in forecasting revenue and costs for programming annually;
  • Provide input to the Chair e.g. when courses should be cancelled due to low enrolments;
  • Recommend pricing for training (private and public) and monitor the workforce environment for emerging trends / changes;
  • Assist the Chair to monitor / review numbers regularly (enrolments, revenue, costs);
  • Contribute to a fully leveraged Continuing Education and Corporate Training budget through sound fiscal oversight of course delivery;
  • Provide timely processing of invoices, proper coding for projects and expense accounts and monitor budgets for any discrepancies related to specific projects on a monthly basis;

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Computer skills with MS Office which includes (but not limited to): Outlook, Word, Excel PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint;
  • Cloud-based skills which include (but not limited to): Searching, using other online meeting/presentation platforms as requested by customers (zoom, GotoMeetings), ability to get just-in-time instruction for software and/or other needs to get work done in a professional way, sharing of data in a secure way, etc;
  • Understanding and usage of a learning management system (LMS), preferably Moodle;
  • Ability to learn systems quickly and document own learning (College systems used: MS Office, Unit 4-Agresso, Moodle, D2L, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, Survey Monkey, Docushare, Respondus, and others as systems get updated);
  • Remote access of systems and ability to continue working wherever located with a device and internet;
