Wage Rate: $15.00 per hour

Requirements:

  • Funding requirements for this job require applicants to be between 17 and 30 years of age, legally entitled to work in Canada, and a full-time student returning to school in the next academic session;
  • Present a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector screening;
  • Great interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and within a team.

Single unit furnished accommodations may be provided as a taxable benefit to individuals who require housing and currently reside outside of Grouard, Alberta.

Job Description

Museum Interpreter / Aide

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work at the Native Cultural Arts Museum, inclusive of components of the Historical Village.
  • Provide educational programs and tours to the general public.
  • Learn a variety of programs for presentation to different audiences.
  • Prepare program materials for delivery both indoors and out.
  • Assist in the preparation of Historical Village components, set up displays for programs, care for exhibit materials, and deliver programs to visitors.
  • Additional tasks and activities including research projects, office administration, collections management, record keeping, light maintenance or cleaning of equipment or exhibits is also required.
  • All staff will be required to attend training sessions, which may require independent study to prepare for programs.
  • Some travel may be required.

Qualifications:

      Required:

  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma, or equivalent

Assets:

  • Post-secondary education is an asset, preferably in one of the following fields or other relevant program: History, Education, Arts, Museology, Drama, Social Sciences. 
  • Previous museum experience;
  • Knowledge of traditional crafts and outdoor living;
  • The ability to speak Cree or French;
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook and Excel;
  • Class 5 drivers’ license.
