Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree in directly related field, such as: Health Studies or Nursing, Education, Adult Education, Distance Education, Leadership/Educational Leadership;
  • Licensure in a related health profession (CARNA, CPLNA);
  • Minimum of three years’ working in nursing education;
  • Three years working in the post-secondary system;
  • Experience working with adult, northern and rural learners and environments
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Clear Criminal Record Check

 Other Requirements:

Driving required, primarily to Northern Lakes College’s administrative locations, to professional association and college provincial meetings and to other post-secondary institutions.

Successful candidate must provide College or University transcripts, Criminal Record Check, and proof of valid driver’s license and licensure in a related health profession to Human Resources prior to commencement.

Position Description

Chair, Practical Nurse and Health Care Aide

Nature and Scope of Work:

Working with the Dean, Humanities, University Studies & Quality, and Interim Dean, Health, the Chair, Practical Nurse and Health Care Aide is an experienced nurse, and is generally responsible for the overall supervision, administration and operation of the department. The responsibilities for this Chair position include the follow programs: Practical Nurse and Health Care Aide.

Administration for the Department includes the following responsibilities:

  1. recruiting employees;
  2. implementing College policies, procedures and regulations;
  3. planning and implementing program initiatives;
  4. setting and monitoring program delivery standards;
  5. evaluating program delivery;
  6. managing student issues;
  7. preparing and monitoring department budgets;
  8. strategic planning for specific program units and for the department;
  9. preparation of internal college documents (e.g. program plans, program evaluation);
  10. marketing of programs;
  11. preparation of external documents (e.g. program approval documents);
  12. facilitating effective operations, student supports and communication for the delivery of distributed courses and programs;
  13. working in collaboration with the Coordinator and Dean to establish and maintain program approvals and accreditation;
  14. working in collaboration with the Coordinator, Faculty, Dean and the Centre for Teaching and Learning to develop and maintain curriculum that meets or exceed standards for the various health professions.

Supervision includes monitoring and evaluating employee performance, and identifying, organizing and approving professional development opportunities.  Employees include program coordinators, program faculty and an administrative assistant.

Corporate administrative responsibilities include the following:

  1. Adhering to College operations and procedures;
  2. Working effectively with other College departments and community organizations (e.g. government organizations, partnering educational institutions, professional associations and colleges);
  3. Participating in the management of the department.

This position contributes to the College’s strategic, business and access planning, oversees the program areas and the department services, operations, performance and budgets, and provides leadership and support to faculty and staff.
