Qualifications:

  • 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency registered with ABSA (3rd Class will be considered with suitable work experience)
  • 10 years of progressively responsible process operations/power engineering experience
  • 5 years of teaching or supervisory experience preferred
  • Interest in helping others develop their skills in a Power Engineering career
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Computer skills in Internet Explorer, Educational technology, MS Word, Excel and e-mail applications
  • Willingness to develop computer skills as required for optimum distance student support
  • Ability to work well as part of a team

Successful candidate must provide college or university transcripts and a criminal record check to Human Resources prior to commencement.

Job Description
Instructor, Power Engineering

Nature and Scope of Work:
The instructor’s role is to provide academic leadership that enables students to achieve established learning outcomes within a supported distance program framework. The Instructor, Power Engineering reports to the Chair, Trades & Resource Technology and is responsible for facilitating instruction of 4th and 3rd class on-line curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the team members to plan, develop and implement a supported online delivery model with a focus on developing appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the learners.
  • Monitor and evaluate learner progress;
  • Provide instructional assistance as required to learners and maintain proactive contact with learners;
  • Develop/modify exam content as required;
  • Develop relationships with Power Engineering employers in Alberta as well as Provincial regulators;
  • Keep accurate student records and give regular feedback on student attendance and progress;
  • Abide by the FOIP Act in regards to student information;
  • Some travel to meetings, field trips and site visits will be required;
  • Other related duties as required.
