Qualifications:

  • A completed 4-year Bachelor’s Degree with experience in teaching, training, counselling or testing;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
  • Criminal Record Check.

(Please note, those who are involved in instructing potential GED candidates (teachers in Adult Basic Education, GED preparation programs, alternative education programs) are not eligible to apply).

Successful candidate must provide College or University transcripts, proof of valid driver’s license and a criminal record check to Human Resources prior to commencement.

Position Description

GED Examiner

Division: Learner Services

Department:  Student Success

Purpose: Reporting to the Chair, Student Success, the GED Examiner provides GED testing services, on a scheduled and as-needed basis, to individuals throughout the NLC service region at various NLC campuses/CAP sites.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Travel to various campuses and sites within the NLC service region to administer and supervise GED testing to eligible participants.
  2. Ensure that testing materials are properly stored and appropriate security is exercised in accordance with specified GED protocols.
  3. Communicate with testing sites to ensure proper set-up of location, room reservations, etc…
  4. Verify eligibility of test-takers.
  5. Report any concerns or discrepancies with GED testing to supervisor, immediately.
  6. Ensure that integrity of the testing environment is maintained.
  7. Collaborate with individuals internal and external to the department for scheduling GED tests, ordering tests, completing audits of testing inventory, scheduling travel.
  8. Administrative duties related to receiving and returning inventory and completed tests.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of testing best practices and examination integrity.
  • Ability to complete multiple and varying tasks related to all aspects of NLC’s GED testing.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Peace River Correctional Centre -NLC operates a college campus at the Peace River Correctional Centre. This is also a location for GED testing.

Other Information:

GED testing is offered by NLC from September – June. Generally, it is expected that the GED testing would be offered 6-10 times throughout this period. Demand for GED testing and poor travel conditions may impact this estimation.
