Instructor, Heavy Equipment Technician Program

Hourly Rate: $31.87 to $48.95 per hour

Location: High Prairie

Start Date: September 3, 2024 to December 13, 2024

Qualifications:

  • An Alberta or Red Seal Journeyperson Certificate in the Heavy Equipment Technician trade with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring adults.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license.

Suggested Additional Qualifications:

  • Adult Education Certificate, Diploma, or B.Ed.

Successful candidate must provide a Criminal Record Check, Journeyperson Certification and University or College Transcripts to Human Resources prior to commencement.

This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between Northern Lakes College and the Faculty Association of Northern Lakes College.

Instructor, Heavy Equipment Technician

Major Job Function:
Instructors at NLC enjoy helping others. They are committed to student success. The instructional schedule is a 36.25 work week enhancing an individual’s personal time. Instructors in the Trades department support student learning in apprenticeship, pre-employment, pre-apprenticeship, and dual credit programming. This programming will  be offered via face to face delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction to students in a classroom and/or lab setting
  • Foster and maintain a positive and effective learning environment
  • Prepare teaching and learning materials
  • Assist in the development of curriculum and other program materials, including (but not limited to) test banks, practice exams, mid-term exams, final exam and final practical testing procedure
  • Assess and evaluate students
  • Record and report student success and attendance
  • Assist with industry, government, and community relations
  • Assist with purchasing of materials and supplies
  • Supportive of College and department vision and direction
  • Enjoys working in a team environment and will collaborate with others.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Heavy Equipment Technician trade
  • Teaching and learning
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Works directly with other trades instructors and the program administrator
