Instructor, University Studies (Internal)

Salary Range: $66,396 to $102,456 per year
Location: Slave Lake
July 1, 2025 to ongoing

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in related and appropriate field, such as Masters of Education or Master of Arts.
  • Eligible for registration with professional association as required for the program area.
  • Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality educational programs.
  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office.
  • Experience teaching adults.
  • Experience using distance education technologies.
  • Experience developing curriculum.
  • Doctoral degree in related and appropriate field is an asset.
  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Job Description     

Department: Learner Services, University Studies

Major Job Function:

This position is responsible for increasing student learning through facilitating a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering high quality instruction, assessing student learning, supporting and mentoring students, and participating in College activities. Competencies and tasks of the position will be met consistent with the educational principles of the College, which focus on meeting the learning needs of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Student Learning and Deliver Instruction: Deliver, assess and redesign effective curriculum and instruction which meets the needs of diverse and distance students. Inform students of expectations, adapt instructional strategies to meet student needs, and utilize technology and varied media as appropriate.
  • Assess Student Learning: Conduct an on-going program of student assessment to ensure student achievement and effectiveness of instruction. Communicate progress with students and appropriate College services. Document student performance over time. Use assessment data to improve course and program delivery.
  • Manage the Classroom Effectively: Meet the assigned schedule, provide students with course outlines uploaded to D2L, establish a safe and respectful learning environment, maintain accurate student attendance and achievement records, and ensure opportunities for students’ participation, collaboration with peers, and course/faculty evaluation.
  • Modify the curriculum as indicated by program evaluations in accordance with program operations, and other forms of student feedback e.g. forums, journals.
  • Pursue On-going Professional Development: Maintain up-to-date certification and licenses as needed. Develop and implement a professional development plan that incorporates effective innovation in program content and process. Attend professional development workshops.
  • Work Collaboratively with Colleagues and Participate on Instructional and College-wide Teams: Participate in team activities in a collaborative process. Consult appropriately with team members. Attend and participate in University Studies team meetings, other College committee meetings, and general staff meetings.
  • Maintain Positive Relations with the External Community: Attend and contribute in program advisory committee meetings.
  • Develop Curriculum: Identify competencies and develop a means of assessing students’ ability to meet these competencies, establish prioritized goals and objectives/outcomes, develop instructional materials which meet the needs of diverse learners, and ensure relevance in programming. Provide curriculum that meets College standards for each course.
  • Adherence to College Values: Maintain confidentiality of student information. Act in accordance with FOIP regulations, the NLC mission statement and foundation documents. Know and follow policies and procedures established by Northern Lakes College.
