Program Delivery

This program is delivered using a blended delivery combining face-to-face and distance learning. This delivery method allows students to pursue their educational goals in selected communities; however, students in the program are likely to have to relocate for short periods of time to another community in order to complete the clinical requirements of the program or travel to meet the requirements for nursing lab experiential learning. In order to be successful in the program, students must have good physical and emotional health. Please review the document on the CLPNA website: 'Becoming A Licensed Practical Nurse in Canada: Requisite Skills and Abilities' for further information. Current CPR certificate for Health Care Provider (Level C) is required prior to starting clinical courses. Immunizations must be up-to-date prior to any clinical practicum experience. A Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, completed within the last 3 months will be required during the first term of the program. The existence of a criminal record may affect practicum placement, program completion and employment prospects. Completion of a waiver form is necessary if there is evidence of a criminal record or incomplete immunizations. For more information, please contact the Program Coordinator. Please note that graduates of this program are eligible to become licensed through the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta and will be required to pay additional licensing and national examination fees of approximately $1000.

Applicants must have credits in the following courses or their equivalent: • Biology 30 (60%) or credit in ANPY1000 (50%) or BIOL0190 (60%); • English 30-1 (60%) or English 30-2 (70%) or ENGL0190 (60% or an assessed English equivalency); • Math 20-1 (50%) or Math 20-2 (60%) or MATH0190 (60%).
