Funding

Some funding sources will require you to have an Alberta Student Number. To obtain your Alberta Student Number, please visit the Alberta Learning website, Learner Registry area, and use the "Lookup ASN" link on that page.

If you have recently moved to Alberta and/or have never registered with a school or post-secondary institution in the province, and need an Alberta Student Number, you can request one by using the "Request ASN On-line".

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG)

The ​Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) is a taxable cash grant of $1,000 per year or per level, up to a maximum​​ amount of $2,000 per person. The deadline to apply is June 30 of the calendar year after you have completed the first and/or second year or level.

Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG)

The ​Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG) is a taxable cash grant of $2,000 for registered apprentices who complete their apprenticeship training and obtain their journeyperson certification. The deadline to apply is June 30 of the calendar year after you have completed your apprenticeship and receive your journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade.

Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) Grant

This grant can cover the tuition and textbook costs for Upgrading – Adult Basic Education and is available to students attending part- or full-time, home-based or on-site. If you are interested in utilizing this grant, please contact your Campus Instructor to send in a request. Student Aid Alberta - Full-time Student loans

Helpful tips for Student Loans & Grants

The provincial and federal governments provide student loans and grants to help you achieve your post-secondary educational goals. When you apply as a full-time student, you are considered for financial aid for both Alberta and Canada student loans and grants. You could receive up to $8,500 per semester (NEW) in combined Alberta and Canada student loans. Loans are determined based on your financial need, and you will repay them after you graduate, or leave school, 12 months (NEW) after your completion date you will be expected to start making payments.  For Loan Limits click here.

IMPORTANT: There is only one NLC campus listed on the Student Aid Alberta online application. You must select "Northern Lakes College - Grouard Campus" regardless of the location you will be attending, including distance learners.

Canada Apprentice Loan

The Canada Apprentice Loan is an initiative of the Government of Canada to help you complete your apprenticeship in a designated Red Seal trade. Since January 2015, you can apply for up to $4,000 in interest-free loans per period of technical training. The money will be available to you to help pay for tuition, tools, equipment and living expenses, to cover forgone wages or to help support your family.
