Program Details

Program Description

Emergency Medical Services is a dynamic industry that offers an exciting and rewarding career for individuals looking to make a positive impact in the lives of others. The Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program is a full-time program composed of independent study, online lectures, and mandatory face-to-face, onsite lab seminars. Students will gain hands-on experience through labs and scenario-based training. Students will develop critical-thinking skills that will allow them to develop an appropriate differential diagnosis and treatment pathway for their patients. Communications, personal wellness, safety, and professionalism are stressed throughout the program. The program delivery model, offers students the flexibility to participate in a majority of the program activities from home. The onsite lab seminars and practicum placements require students to be prepared and able to travel and stay away from home for periods of time, in order to complete mandatory program requirements. This one year certificate program is accredited by Accreditation Canada ensuring graduates are skilled in all competencies relevant to the National Occupational Competency Profile (2011) for Primary Care Paramedics. The theory and lab seminars are delivered over approximately 32 weeks and are followed by a hospital practicum and an ambulance practicum. Students are responsible for costs related to travel, including accommodations for the onsite sessions and practicums. Students must have reliable, high speed Internet access and a mobile device compatible with the College technology requirements, to effectively participate in the online portions of the program. Students are required to have an iPad with a minimum nine-inch screen that is compatible with Comptracker Software for competency tracking.
